Easy Homemade Pasta Sauce

The perfect healthy comfort food as the weather gets cooler! This homemade pasta sauce has so much flavor and only takes 20 minutes to cook. Perfect to make on a weeknight when you’re short on time!

Just pour it over your favorite pasta or gnocchi - I used Trader Joe’s cauliflower gnocchi. Feel free to use whatever ground meat you prefer and just leave off the parmesan at the end if you need to keep it dairy-free.

Recipe makes 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp ghee or olive oil

  • 2 shallots, diced

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 lb. ground beef

  • 2 tsp dried oregano

  • ½ tsp dried basil

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¼ tsp black pepper

  • 1 14oz can diced tomatoes, no salt

  • ¼ cup chicken broth

  • ½ cup parmesan, grated

  • ¼ cup fresh basil

Directions

  1. Heat the ghee or olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the shallots, sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened. Add the beef and break it up as it sautés until browned and cooked completely.

  2. Once the beef is cooked, add the garlic, beef, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, diced tomatoes, and chicken broth. Mix to combine and let simmer for about 3-4 minutes or until most of the liquid cooks off.

  3. That’s it! Serve over your favorite pasta or gnocchi (I used Trader Joe’s cauliflower gnocchi). Top with parmesan and fresh basil.
