Almond Milk
I’ve been making my own dairy-free milk for a while now - it’s just SO much better (and more nutritious) than from the store. I like to add a little salt, a date, and vanilla extract for some additional flavor.
You'll just need a nut milk bag and a good blender. My Nutribullet works perfectly or a Vitamix would be great too.
Make it and try a taste test! You’ll see how fresh and almond-forward the flavor is when it’s homemade. This recipe can also easily be doubled if you have a household of almond milk lovers!
Recipe makes 4 cups
Ingredients
1 cup raw almonds
4 cups water
1 pinch salt
½ tsp vanilla extract
Optional: 1 date or 1 tsp honey
Directions
Place the raw almonds in a bowl and add 2 cups of water. Let soak overnight.
After soaking, drain the water and place the almonds in your blender. Add 4 cups of water, salt, the vanilla extract, and date/honey if you’re using it. Blend on high for 1-2 minutes.
Line a bowl with your nut milk bag. When the almonds are done blending, pour the mixture into the bag. Close and twist the top of the bag, lift it over the bowl, then use your hands to squeeze as much liquid out as possible.
Pour the almond milk into a glass jar and store in the refrigerator. Shake to mix it before drinking and enjoy over the next 4-5 days.
