Healthy Chocolate Hazelnut Spread
I absolutely LOVE chocolate hazelnut spread! This homemade version is made with whole and healthy ingredients to nourish your body and heart at the same time.
I actually find it to be more rich and chocolatey than the store-bought kind. It’s also dairy-free and vegan if you swap the honey for maple syrup.
Try it on toast or a rice cake with sliced bananas… Or just eat it with a spoon!
Recipe makes ~1 ⅓ cups
Ingredients
2 cups (265g) hazelnuts, raw
3 tbsp honey (or maple syrup)
¼ cup (30g) cacao powder
½ tsp vanilla extract
¼ tsp salt
2 tbsp walnut oil
Directions
Dry roast hazelnuts on a baking sheet at 350F for 8-10 minutes or until fragrant.
Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes. Roll the hazelnuts on the counter between 2 kitchen towels to gently loosen skin. Remove as much as possible (it’s okay if you don’t get it all!)
Add hazelnuts to a food processor and process until they become a flour-like consistency. Add the remainder of the ingredients and process until smooth. Taste and add more honey or cacao if you’d like.
Store at room temperature in an air-tight container or jar.
